Getting Started
-
What types
of online learning courses are there?
An online
learning course is either credit or noncredit, with a group start or
an asynchronous start. An asynchronous-start online learning course is
a course without a set start date, where students start at different
times and work at their own pace. Courses can be credit/group-start,
noncredit/group-start, credit/asynchronous-start or
noncredit/asynchronous-start. If you are unsure as to which category
your course falls into, please contact Program Support Services for
clarification.
-
What are the technology
requirements?
The basic
technology requirements are Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher, a
modem speed of 56K (for dial-up connections) or a broadband connection
(DSL or cable) preferred.
In addition to
the basic requirements, for some courses you may need PowerPoint,
Adobe Acrobat 5.0 or higher, Microsoft Office, Visio, Real Player, or
Windows Media Player. Technical courses may require specialized
software. If a course relies on software that is beyond the basic
technology requirements, the software will be described in the course
introduction. You can read the course introduction by selecting
Courses from the menu on the left and then
browsing to the course.
-
When does my course start?
Most online
learning courses start the day you register for the course and are not
quarter specific. There are no late registration fees. Some courses,
however, have group-start dates and/or require some classroom
meetings. Group-start courses may have start and end dates that
coincide with academic quarters. Be sure to review the Summary form
for these dates. If a course is a group-start you may not be able to
access the online course guide until the first day of the course.
-
How long is my course?
A course length
can range from three to six months. You will find your start and end
dates listed on your Summary. The courses are approximately 120
- 140 hours.
-
How many
courses can I enroll in at one time?
A full load is
classified as six (6) one (1) credit courses. If you need
additional courses you will have to get approval from
Advising.
-
How do I change my address?
If you need to change
your address, contact
Registration Services and your instructor.
-
How will I set up my User ID?
After registering for
a online learning course, you will receive a letter providing your
User ID and Password. Once your User ID is established, you may
connect to view your registration schedule and access information
about your courses, teachers, and other resources and activities.
